Hella All,
I have a 2004 Sequoia Limited that I bought new and it now has 220,000 miles. The common issues with the front speakers needing replacement and the need to modify the back door latch have arisen but overall it remains a solid ride.
Lately my issue has been ABS (anti-lock braking system) codes and the answer, every time, has been to clean the electrical contacts. I made a quick video on it
The issue is that I’m now only occasionally using the vehicle in Hawaii which is a state that requires annual vehicle safety inspection and an activated dash light is an automatic fail. Hawaii is also a place where parts are not quickly available; so I’ve begun to stockpile replacements in case the cleaning doesn’t do the job.
Getting to the point at hand: Every time I pull the codes for the dash lights Blue Driver gives me the probable fix of-replace the brake booster.
This has led to my being paranoid about the brake booster. I can find used ones for $450 but since they’re used I don’t have confidence in them as a back up plan. I was thinking that i might be able to substitute a later model Sequoia brake booster but don’t know if it will fit properly.
Has anyone found a reliable 1st gen brake booster replacement or rebuilt their brake booster? Does anyone have expedience of installing a used brake booster?
