The 2001 Toyota Sequoia was a full-size SUV introduced for 2001. This was an eight-passenger SUV cum a domestic sports car. In was one of the primitive versions of Sequoia, and had a conventional 4.7-liter V8 engine that developed 240 hp; it was paired to a 4-speed automatic transmission.

It was offered in two trim levels; Limited and SR5 version. Both versions were rolled out with choice of four-wheel drive as well as two-wheel drive. Limited versions were furnished with posh interiors, but even standard SR5 version had a nice collection of conventional equipments too.

The first generation 2001 Toyota Sequoia was praised for its well-structured interior with powerful V8 engine and sophisticated driving feel. Even though it had comparatively slim width and appeared not as gigantic as its rivals, its shoulder space was somewhat roomier.

The 50/50 3rd-row seats were not so comfortable and could not be folded back. The full-size packages were available for additional comfort, and the standard offerings were leather upholstery, split 50/50 seats, and front and curtain side airbags. The safety features provided in 2001 Toyota Sequoia were ABS, traction control, and antiskid system.
